RUROUNI KENSHIN

Anime has a few timeless classics that will always be recalled fondly in the memory of anime fans. People will always talk about Ninja Scroll or Dragon Ball Z and people will always argue about Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X. While being lightly controversial Rurouni Kenshin is one of the most revered samurai anime in existence.
The series focuses on the star Kenshin Himura a retired samurai as he struggles with the strangely difficult task to stop taking lives. On the surface it would seem easy enough to stop murdering people but not when you were formerly known as Hitkori Battusai or Battusai the Slasher (Man Slayer). Kenshin was the cog in the wheels of the revolution and had slaughtered thousands so that the corrupt Shogun government could be replaced. Alongside Kenshin are newfound friends Miss Kauro (a possible love interest), Yahiko a street urchin and a best friend Sanosuke Sagara a street fighter.
A major attraction factor of this anime is the level of depth of the character Kenshin. Kenshin struggles to contain a side of his personality that retains the heartlessness and coldness- the part that will laugh while chopping your head off. There are countless fights where Kenshin's evil side- affectionately called Battusai- creeps out. Kauro often has to step in to help Kenshin to deal with his violent side. The anime really gets exciting when Kenshin faces his biggest rival- the killer who replaced him as chief assassin in the Shogun period Shishi-Oh. Those sets of battles are the most intense and the most heavily discussed among fans. Things come to a head when Kenshin and hishi-oh face off but before the battle can go to a third (yes it has two stages) height Shishi-oh spontaneously combusts.
Many believe that if Shishi-oh didn't burst into flames the fight could have gone in the other direction but many more believe otherwise. The really exciting things happen below episode 60 but the series has 95 episodes. The remainder of the anime focuses on smaller group issues because by the middle of the anime Kenshin had officially conquered his inner demons. The anime also has exciting OVAs and a not too hot Motion Picture that complement the series.
