Ok, well just so you all know... I only make the spamming comments to the noobs when Ive seen and warned them about the spamming... like how this noob (http://www.animesynergy.com/forum/member.php?u=1473) made 20 posts all at once... and then he went to the gallery and thats it.... maybe he'll come back, I dont know... but Id love to be proven wrong and he is actually interested in participating in the forum.

So youll all have to forgive me for being a bit harsh and short of tolerance when Im dealing with these post-whores... Im not going to pretend to be nice.. because I feel like they're ruining the forum for us.

And I know some of you are annoyed as well when you come to the forum and see a whole bunch of posts made by one person and some of the posts dont even contribute anything to the threads.
Or am I really the only one that finds it irritating?

And yes I do send PMs to them telling them that they shouldnt post-whore, and I assure you I say it as polite as possible while being as much threatening as I possibly can be, which is to ban for at least 24 hours and getting rid of nonsense posts... which Ive done to 2 noobs already.. in which one (http://www.animesynergy.com/forum/member.php?u=1465) came back after his ban and tried to get 20 posts again.. and so.. I banned him again.

-----

So... do any of you have any great ideas on how to tackle this problem?
Id really love to know which posts you consider spam and would like to see deleted... because more times Im unsure of what to delete... so can yall PM me when you consider a noob post to be spam?

Feh, maybe ill even greet them nicer if I got some help weeding out this forum.

well based on what u said, i would say that u handling it the right way. i never knew about the pms that are sent out to noobs who behave unseemly.
i guess u have an eye for the post-whoring behavior so its all up to u. and for assistance...would u prefer PM or just pointing it out in the thread?

Ok, DK has made some changes... and as before, it wont interfere with the older members.
We've upped the post count from 20 to the number care-free recommended (go ask him), this is so we can properly determine if a noob is really participating or just post-whoring.. in that case he will be warned, and if he continues, banned for at least 24 hours.

But, the difference is that noobs can only gain access to the gallery if given permission by the mods.

---
But that still leaves the spam posts around the place... so PMing me is fine, just give me the link to the post and tell me which member... ill do the rest.

And if this works out, then eventually we might put things back the way is was, in respect to not needing the mod's permission for the gallery.

it's annoying yes but we can't really force them to participate by posting, some people will never participate much if at all and if it's the gallery they want to see by all means let them see the gallery, I don't see that as a problem if they sign up just to browse that as long as there account isn't obviously for spamming

The life of a Mod is a very hard one ^_^

hmm...thats an interesting point. maybe the mods can shed some light on why it is so important to have people posting on the forums and not just use the gallery and the other areas of the site

Well, its because the pictures of members are in the gallery.. and Im sure some members do not want ANY and EVERY one to be able to view their pics.

Thats why we put the restriction on.

Unless yall comfortable with having anybody view your pics.

the infidels point is extremely valid.. my thing is most of the people that register for only using the gallery are on a take take take vibe. they rarely if ever contribute.

kudos to deathwish as he both posts and contributes his work to the gallery.. not only taking taking taking.. thats the kind of users i'm looking fore. to contribute in one way or another..

even though the members with under x posts have limited gallery permissions they can upload. after x uploads that can also be used to value if the user is a genuine community contributer or not. Basically we're are trying to build a proper community here.

We have a great foundation and i believe its time to expand it a little.

if people just come for the gallery alone the forums will suffer. the forum should be the main attraction on the site not the gallery

alright..i think i get it. the new members signing up should be made aware or this before they sign up, or at some point during the registration process.
