Digimon Frontier: Rise from Atlantis

“Porpamon! What’s going on?!”

“How am I supposed to know?!” Porpamon yelled at his human.

They were both falling; this was all too familiar to Ken. His first visit to the Digital World was very much like this. He had just used his D3 to open a Digiport; but they didn’t end up where they’d expected to; instead, they were pulled violently off Ken’s bedroom floor into the computer screen and were now falling down a vortex of swirling black and blue. Where in the world… well, where were they going? Somehow, Ken doubted it was the Digital World.

Arms outstretched, Ken was glad that they weren’t tumbling as they fell; Ken’s navy-blue jacket fluttered behind him and his teal-coloured T-shirt was being blown upwards as well. He could tell Porpamon was scared; he could see the small blue Digimon’s face distorted into a pensive frown as he frantically tried to understand what’s going on. Whenever something Digiworld-related was going on, Porpamon usually had at least a basic idea of what was going on. But now, he had none and that was killing him, Ken knew. But as the seconds went by, Ken began to wonder why Porpamon was not digivolving. That would have been one of his friend’s first reflexes; to become Aquatomon so he could catch Ken.

“Porpamon?” he gasped as his Digimon started… glowing! His eyes widened in concern. He looked into Porpamon’s eyes and saw… fear, confusion. “Porpamon!” he yelled. “Huh?”

His D3, which he held in his left hand, started glowing as well, drawing his attention. What’s going on?! Ken mused, his brow furrowed in his perplexity. Oh, no! Porpamon!

It was almost too quick to see. Porpamon became nothing more than a streak of white light that moved briskly towards his D3, which began to glow even more brightly.

“Porpamon!” he shouted at his digivice as he brought it before his face. “Porpamon!” It was then that the light became so bright that it overcame everything; and he had to close his eyes to protect them from the intense glow.

When Ken judged that it was safe to open his eyes again, he wished he hadn’t. He was still falling, but the swirling colours were gone. And he was plummeting fast towards a forest of lush trees.

Where was Porpamon? Why was he taken away?! Ken’s heart started pounding rapidly now. What was he supposed to do? There was no way out of this without his friend. But that’s when he remembered his digivice; perhaps it would have some answers. It had stopped glowing. And, as he looked towards it, he realized it had changed. It had the same colours – white and light-blue – but was shaped differently. Its buttons were different as well. On the screen was what Ken thought resembled the Crest of Confidence; the symbol was a letter ‘C’ with a circle in the centre with a line moving out from it.

Porpamon… Ken thought, feeling hopeless as he neared the ground. What can I do?

It was then that it came to him. He didn’t know how, but he knew what he should do. His grip tightened on the new digivice. He closed his eyes and stretched out his right arm to his side. When he snapped them open, he swiped his hand – which was now surrounded by a strange light that resembled a bar-code – towards the digivice, which seemed to be somehow reading the code.

“Execute!” Ken yelled. “Spirit Evolution!”

Ken couldn’t believe what he was experiencing. He felt his body transform, becoming infused with power like he’d never felt. He felt himself grow taller as his muscles grew. His skin began to change colour, as did his hair as it grew longer. Soon, the human teen known as Ken was there no longer; and the Digimon announced his new title: “NeoAquatomon!”

The transformation was complete just in time. NeoAquatomon covered his face with the armour-like blasters on his lower arms as he crashed through a few small branches. It was after he broke through the canopy and almost hit the ground that he remembered something:

Aquatomon can fly.

NeoAquatomon stopped himself just a few centimetres above the damp earth, making the patches of g**** below him ripple. His heart was slowing down as he hovered there for a while… He… he was a Digimon. How could this be? He’d never heard of such a thing happening. And where was he?

Porpamon… he had somehow merged with Ken’s digivice. Perhaps that was what was allowed him to digivolve into NeoAquatomon; or rather Spirit Evolve. The digivice uploaded his Digimon’s data into him after changing Porpamon into a suitable form… a form that prevented them from communicating as they normally did. But why?

Porpamon… are you… inside me? NeoAquatomon thought as he closed his eyes. He touched down on the ground and sighed a little. I wish you were with me… this is all so weird…

“I think it was over there,” a voice floated over from among the trees to NeoAquatomon’s ears.

The water-based digimon turned to the source of the voice and soon, he saw a small creature flying out from behind the trees. “Look, Papa-Mom,” the Digimon said. It was a Patamon and certainly wasn’t the owner of the voice NeoAquatomon had heard before. It had sounded a lot more mature.

“I’m right behind you,” the first voice called. A light-coloured Digimon with white eyes, and some sort of elastic garment around his waist, popped out from behind a tree, breathing hard from running. “Are you alright?” he asked NeoAquatomon.

“Yes, I’m fine,” NeoAquatomon said, his voice deeper and more mature-sounding than Ken’s. Like Aquatomon, he had no mouth and spoke with some sort of psychic mind wave.

“Oh, that’s good,” the Digimon said as Patamon rested on his head. He tried his best to steady his breathing. “Patamon saw you falling and we all came to see if we could help.”

Just as the white Digimon said this, another showed, wearing red pants. The newcomer had long ears and orange skin. “Is the Digimon alright?” he asked as he panted for breath.

“Yes, Neemon, he’s just fine. And we’re all glad you are,” the white Digimon said. “I’m Bokomon and this is Patamon and Neemon. And you… Wait a minute…” And with that Bokomon took out a thick green book, frantically flipping through it as if he forgot he had been speaking to Neo-Aquatomon. “I’m sure it’s in here…” he muttered.

“Whatcha lookin’ for, Papa-Mon?” Patamon asked cheerfully, looking into the book curiously as he rested upon his adoptive parent’s head.

“We’ll soon see,” Bokomon answered, musingly.

NeoAquatomon was a bit curious himself, but he waited for what Bokomon had to say, his mind not focussing very much on the situation; Porpamon was gone, perhaps for good. He couldn’t bring himself to do anything full-heartedly.

“Ah, here it is,” Bokomon said after a few moments, Neemon coming up behind him as well to see what this was all about. “That symbol on your chest,” he said to NeoAquatomon, “it’s the mark of the once great ruler of an underwater city called Digi-Atlantis.” He showed the book to the seven-foot tall Digimon, who recognized instantly the same symbol that he’d seen on his digivice’s screen before and that, he just realized was on the right side of his chest. In the book, the symbol was surrounded by other symbols of what appeared to be a strange language, but it was unmistakable. “Porpamon was his name, but he later became…”

“Porpamon?” NeoAquatomon interrupted, suddenly having all his attention turned to Bokomon as the bent towards the small Digimon “You’ve seen him?”

“Seen him? My dear boy, Porpamon hasn’t been around for many years,” Bokomon replied, his own curiosity peaked. “What connection do you have to him? I haven’t seen a Digimon such as you before in my book.”

“That might be… because I’m not a Digimon,” NeoAquatomon said sadly and pensively.

Neemon’s eyes widened and the other two gasped as the bar-code lights surrounded NeoAquatomon. It soon vanished, leaving a 15-year-old human boy with dark skin and hair wearing a T-shirt, a jacket, a pair of blue jeans and black sneakers.

“Oh, wow, another one!” Patamon said, taking off from Bokomon’s head and flying over to the human. “What’s your name? I’ve never seen a human look like you before!” He was wide-eyed with excitement.

“Uh, I’m Ken,” was the answer. “Well, we humans come up in different colours.”

“Like there’s different kind of Digimon!” Patamon said, with a chuckle.

Ken afforded a small smile. “Yeah, something like that,” he nodded. “But we generally have the same body shape.”

“Hey, do you know any humans named J.P., Kouji, Takura… ”

“Neemon, you nincompoop,” Bokomon interrupted. “The human world is a huge place just like the Digital World! What are the chances Ken would have met them?!”

Neemon whimpered a bit, but turned back to Ken nonetheless with a hopeful expression. “I’m sorry. I don’t know any of those people,” he said, sorry to be the one to tell him such bad news.

“The real question is what’re you doing here? And what exactly is your connection to Porpamon?” Bokomon said with a serious look on his face as Patamon flapped his way over to him.

“Well, to be honest, I don’t know what I’m doing here,” Ken said. “This isn’t the Digiworld that I’m used to. There’s supposed to be only one Porpamon and he’s not the king of anything. He’s… my partner and best friend. And now…” Ken held up his digivice and showed them. “He was somehow sucked into my digivice, which turned into this thing.”

All three Digimon looked baffled. “Could it be that there is an alternate Digital World?” Bokomon thought aloud, rubbing his chin. “Amazing.” He thought for a while and then looked up at Ken. “Porpamon was the only one of his kind here as well. He ruled a great city and helped to bring a great evil to its knees long ago. And he’s the only lead we have as to why you’re here. Perhaps you should pay a visit to Digi-Atlantis. You may get come answers there.”

Ken nodded in agreement. “Alright,” he said. Anything to get Porpamon back.

“We’ll go with you,” Bokomon continued. “Perhaps we can help you to solve this mystery.”

*~*~*~*

From the Village of Flames, the home of the three Digimon, they’d all boarded a Digimon called Trailmon. Ken was always amazed at the diverse kinds of Digimon he met. It was what made the Digital World so wonderful. This one was called Drake. He was dark-green and his skin was rough and scaly. He had silver eyes with black oval pupils that were horizontally oriented. He had a narrow snout and a mouth of sharp teeth. He had a pair of small wings on his roof. Bokomon told Ken that each Trailmon had a unique look, often being as diversified as different types of Digimon were.

As Bokomon looked out at the landscape that sped past them, Bokomon explained that the Digital World had not always been the beautiful place it was. A dark force called Lucemon had tried to destroy the Digital World, taking it apart bit by bit, leaving a scarred and battered world. He’d almost succeeded, but was stopped by a group six humans: Tommy, Zoe, Takuya, J.P., Kouji and his twin brother Kouichi. They had been able to become Digimon as well, that was because they had been given the gift of the ‘Spirits’ of the long-deceased Legendary Warriors although Kouichi, unfortunately had been destroyed in the battle. As Ken explained what had happened to Porpamon, Bokomon concluded that the porpoise Digimon had somehow become something similar to a Spirit.

Bokomon, Neemon and Patamon were all fascinated by the way humans and Digimon were connected in Ken’s Digital World. The latter two thought that it would be nice for there to be doorways to and from the Digital World so they could see their friends again.

In spite of himself and the new developments, Ken found he enjoyed the journey. This Digital World was a beautiful place, lush and amazing. They passed through fields, forest, valleys and plains on the way to their destination. The splendour of this world helped to take his mind away from the fact that Porpamon wasn’t next to him. The job of rebuilding had been done well.

“Here we are,” Drake said as he slowed. “The great big Net Ocean, where the ruins of Digi-Atlantis rests.”

Ken got to his feet and walked to the door as Drake opened it. Patamon, Neemon and Bokomon followed.

“We’ll have to stay behind,” Bokomon said as Ken hopped off the Trailmon. “The sea is your realm as NeoAquatomon, none of us can follow you.”

“Just don’t take all day, kid,” Drake told Ken with a touch of impatience. “I’ve got things to do.”

“Alright,” Ken said. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

The sea was beautiful; a pristine blue expanse. Patamon chuckled, flying forward to see it. The beach seemed like perfect place for relaxation. The golden sand was inviting and, were Porpamon with him, he would not mind at all making sand-castles with him (well, he’d do most of the work since Porpamon had no hands). But he was there for a purpose.

“Ah,” Bokomon said pointing out towards the sea. “We’re in luck!” Ken turned in the direction Bokomon indicated and saw a familiar sight; a school of Dolphmon jumping and splashing in the sea, but they were a good distance away. He rushed off towards the beach, joining Patamon, who was splashing around in the salty water. Neemon trailed behind.

“Hello there!” Bokomon called to the marine Digimon but they were too far away and too caught up in their fun to hear him, even after Neemon joined in. And they were moving further away.

“Don’t worry,” Patamon said with his typical cheerful voice. “I’ll go get ’em!”

“Oh, be careful Patamon!” Bokomon called after the small winged Digimon. He sighed and Ken heard him mutter something about ‘the trials of parenthood’.

Despite the afternoon sun, the sea breeze sent a chill down Ken’s spine and he pulled his jacket more tightly around himself. All he could think about was what he could find in that city. Its only connection with him was that its king was a Porpamon as well. But Bokomon was right; that was his only lead. And he could not help feeling that this would all be for nothing. He might not find anything at all in there that would help him and Porpamon be reunited. But it was better than doing nothing.

Patamon soon returned, gleefully riding on the back of one of the Dolphmon. There were a fair number of them, at least a dozen. They greeted the group of four with cheerful voices, asking how they may be of help.

After a greeting of his own, and as he moved into the water so he could be closer to the Dolphmon, Bokomon said, “Our friend here would like to see the ruins of the underwater city. Could you be his escort?”

“We’d love to,” one of the Dolphmon said, slightly confused. “But Digi-Atlantis is really far down. None of you could hold your breath long enough to get down there.”

Ken took this as his cue. He wasn’t in a talkative mood and so could not bother to explain. A demonstration would be more efficient, he believed. He held up the digivice – which Bokomon had called a D-Tector on the train – and stuck out his right hand, again. The bar-code surrounded his hand again and was scanned by the D-Tector as he yelled, “Execute! Spirit Evolution!”

Once again, NeoAquatomon came on the scene. And as he spoke his name, the Dolphmon looked on in amazement.

“Did the king leave a Spirit behind like the Ten Legendary Warriors?” one asked, having heard the story of the humans who could do the very thing they’d just experienced. But each had been in possession of one of the Spirits of a Legendary Warrior. The Dolphmon knew this boy didn’t have one. The number of such Spirits had been exhausted, but this boy had assumed a form that was similar to that of the king of Digi-Atlantis.

NeoAquatomon sighed internally. He was not particularly keen to explain to them but he could not wait for Bokomon to do it. “I’ll explain on the way,” he said, taking off into the air and moving towards the sea. As he lowered himself into water, he almost forgot to say goodbye to his new friends. It was when Patamon yelled, “Bye!” that he turned to them and waved.

“We’ll wait for you right here,” Bokomon said.

NeoAquatomon nodded. “Alright. I’ll be back as soon as I can.” And with that, he as well as all the marine-mammal Digimon, vanished beneath the surface.

*~*~*~*

The time draws near.

Alone; in a dark, cold place – that was not really a place at all – in which all of her normal bodily senses were lost to her. There, she had been imprisoned. Her fractal code had been broken into pieces and scattered long ago. And then each fragment was bound to a different place by her greatest enemy. He’d made it so her data would never recombine; she’d remain scattered and powerless forever.

Or so he’d thought.

She hated her prison. She could detect the world around her, the various ocean Digimon that swam past. But she could not wreak the havoc she so deeply desired to leave in her wake; for the time being, at least. Her foe had made one fatal mistake in his battle against her. And that was to wrongly estimate her strength, her abilities. He hadn’t realized that nothing he could do would keep her this way forever. Fragmented as she was, she was incapacitated. But her data was everlasting. And, although it was a slow process, she had been gathering; tapping into data that was around her; bits and pieces of rock, sand, etc, and assimilating it. She surprised herself by not needing to scan any fractal code in order to do it, but she had gathered so much that she was soon at the threshold. She could feel it. Just a bit more data; a few bits actually. And then she would be free. And would be able to exact her revenge.

She could already feel some of her power able to escape. She could sense activities in farther distances…. And that was how she sensed the school of Dolphmon coming close. And the Digimon travelling with them seemed strangely familiar. It only took a moment for the fragmented captive to realize who the Digimon reminded her of. The one who did this to her. Was he somehow reborn in this Digimon? She could sense that his data signature was incredibly similar to her archenemy.

He’s coming closer, she thought. She would have smirked if she could. Soon, he would be in range. He would pay for what he’d done for her. But for now, he would get just a taste of her wrath. Come closer, my dear old friend. I’ve a surprise waiting for you…

*~*~*~*

NeoAquatomon moved along among the group of Dolphmon, keeping up with them despite his lack of fins and streamlined shape. Plaits fluttered behind him as he glided through the water, his arms and legs unmoving. The same way he could propel himself forward through the air, he could move through water, just as Ken’s Digimon could in all his forms above Rookie. He had explained to the Dolphmon (he’d counted 13) how he was able to assume this form; that he was from a different world and his friend had merged with him so he could become a Digimon. The idea intrigued them.

“The Porpamon of this world was a king,” one Dolphmon said. “He ruled the Net Ocean from Digi-Atlantis.”

“But the end of his dominion was marked by his destruction,” another added. “And there was no ruler since then.”

“So how was he deleted?” NeoAquatomon asked; the monarch’s story interested him.

“Well, he was very powerful. When a really strong Digimon started hurting and even deleting lots of other Digimon and doing damage to the Digital World, he took it upon himself to stop her. He was able to stop her but the battle proved too much for him… he didn’t survive.”

“But we’ve all tried to maintain peace here in honour of his memory,” a Dolphmon that was right next to NeoAquatomon added. “All us sea Digimon have done a pretty good job of that so far.”

“We’re here,” the Dolphmon that had been leading the group said as NeoAquatomon saw an image come into view from a few hundred yards off, on the sea bottom. With sharp ocean eyes, he beheld something the likes of which he had ever seen before. Digi-Atlantis was huge, an ocean metropolis. Despite its obvious age, it still radiated matchless beauty. In fact, cracks in the buildings and the missing peaces of statues seemed just to add to the majesty of the place. Buildings were a pristine white and seemed to be made of a kind of crystal. Statues adorned the conurbation; frozen images of many ocean Digimon had the appearance of many different materials, from marble to gold. There were no streets; underwater there was no need for such things. Windows and doors were often indiscernible and placed at anywhere from the side of the building to the ceiling. As he and the Dolphmon made their way through the city, NeoAquatomon found himself marvelling at the spectacle around him.

But what was at the centre of the circular city was what had caught his attention before any other element of the city. A pyramid was situated there, large and golden. As they group moved closer and closer to this looming image, he knew it was the home of the venerated king. It was square-based, like the pyramids of Egypt. He’d always loved ancient Egypt and was ecstatic to see that their society had made their mark even in another world. Hieroglyphic-like symbols were all over the golden surface. At the apex, though, a golden statue perched. A reptilian-looking creature was depicted, its coils wrapping around the summit of the palace. A fin ran on its dorsal surface from head to tail and also on the lower sections of its two arms, which ended in webbed hands and were the only appendages it had.

Finally, he was close enough to touch the pyramid. He placed a dark hand on the hard metal, awed by its massiveness alone.

“Welcome to the home of our great king,” the Dolphmon cheerfully said in unison, their voices full of pride in their heritage. But NeoAquatomon barely heard them. Something else had caught his attention, blocking out most everything else. It had taken a few seconds, but NeoAquatomon saw a familiar and unmistakable image etched into the metal.

Porpamon.

The image of the Rookie Digimon had a form of headwear that resembled the Khepresh, the ancient Egyptian crown made of cloth embellished with gold discs. What appeared to be many ocean Digimon were congregated around him; one particular one caught NeoAquatomon’s eye, a female humanoid (at least in upper body). A mermaid Digimon, seemingly bowing in a gesture of veneration. He smiled internally; although he could not read these writings, he imagined this was a depiction of Porpamon’s coronation as King; and, if he was right, even the Legendary Warrior known as AncientMermaimon was ruled by this great monarch. If he was going to find any leads, anything that would explain why he was there and what had happened to Porpamon, he’d find them in this city; he was sure of it.

Porpamon… will I ever see you again? NeoAquatomon thought. He could feel the tears welling up; but, of course, they were completely unnoticeable underwater. He could not think of anything but his dear friend. For just a moment, he forgot that the Dolphmon were behind him. He was alone with the golden structure before him, which, unlike most of the city of Digi-Atlantis, showed absolutely no sign of age. He knew the image he was looking at was not his partner and friend, but another, one from a whole other world, the respected ruler of a great and proud nation. But somehow… it gave him a much-needed comfort. He felt closer to Porpamon, though he knew he had merged with him to assume this Digimon form. He missed his friend so much.

But that moment did not last nearly enough. NeoAquatomon was yanked from his reverie and reminded of the world around him when a voice called out behind him.

“Whamon!” the deep loud voice bellowed, announcing a new name. He turned around instantly, seeing the large and daunting form of a large whale Digimon that hadn’t been there before. A large, dark-blue Digimon with a skull-like head, Whamon glared at him. He cast a quick look around to see the shocked looks the Dolphmon.

“Inheritor of the Sea King’s Spirit; now you will meet your end!” the Whamon declared with obvious rage in his voice.

NeoAquatomon felt something within him that begin to rise to the surface, a change brought about, he found, by the prospect of battle. Merger with his partner must have given him the trait of anticipation of the thrill of fighting. Reckless, he’d called once it; but now… he embraced it for reasons unknown.

With an internal smirk, he said, “I dare you to try.”

*~*~*~*

Something’s wrong.

This thought in his mind, the tiny form of the winged Digimon raised from the head of his “Papa-Mom”, who was busy having a chat with Neemon about the king of Digi-Atlantis.

“Honestly, Neemon, don’t you know anything?” Bokomon said with exasperation. “Porpamon was one of the most powerful Digimon of the Net Ocean. But, he perished before the rivalry between Cherubimon and the others. No one was there to witness the battle… so, exactly what happened is a mystery.”

“Oooh…” Neemon said. “Hey!”

“Huh?” Bokomon turned to see what was going on. They had been inside Drake for protection against the sun; but Patamon had escaped through an open window of the train Digimon. “Patamon!” He called in concern as he rushed over to the window. “Come back!”

I can’t, Papa-Mom, Patamon thought. Something’s happening and somehow, I know I can help… His friends Lopmon and Salamon were back at the Village of Flames; and he would be sure that they would be safe.

*~*~*~*

“Blasting Spout!” Whamon yelled.

NeoAquatomon was grateful for his speed; he was able to dodge the much larger Digimon’s attack, quickly getting ready to launch an onslaught of his own. Hands retracted, he pointed his arm-pumps at Whamon and yelled, “Aqua Force!” Being underwater, the blasts of water weren’t particularly visible, but NeoAquatomon could see when it crashed into Whamon on his forehead, causing him to let out a small cry of pain. The Dolphmon were attacking as well.

“Pulse Blast!” they yelled as a sound wave blasted towards the large whale Digimon.

But Whamon only laughed. “Foolish Digimon; you don’t stand a chance!” He once again aimed his blowhole at his enemy and attacked, “Blasting Spout!” Ignoring the other marine mammal Digimon, he aimed the attack once again at NeoAquatomon. The hybrid Digimon once again dodged, bewildered now; he was fighting against an Ultimate-level Digimon… how could he defeat it? The Dolphmon kept attacking; NeoAquatomon admired their resolve. But he also saw that Whamon showed no sign of giving up. Their attacks weren’t working.

But Whamon’s next attack would. Seemingly tired of having his attacks dodged, Whamon decided to use one that wasn’t so easy to evade. Swimming in circles, he called out, “Tidal Wave!”

“Oh no,” NeoAquatomon muttered. He didn’t have to wait longer than a few seconds; he was pushed backwards by the powerful force that Whamon sent in all directions. NeoAquatomon felt a surge of pain sweep out from his back as he crashed against the pyramid... Digieggs slowly descended to the city floor.

The Dolphmon’s Digieggs. They’d all been killed in that one blast.

And his eyes widened in pain and shock as he realized… he was reverting.

Ken tried his hardest to hold his breath as he held one hand over his mouth and the other over his chest. His lungs were starting to burn him. He could not last much longer. His eyes, burning in the salty water, took in the blurred image of the looming creature that was either going to watch him drown or put him out of his misery. Neither prospect was one he welcomed.

He didn’t know what he was thinking. He started swimming. Why? There was really no point; there was no way he could possibly get to the surface in time. He couldn’t even measure how far below he was. But he couldn’t just stay there. He began to think it was a very stupid thing to do considering that the more he moved, the more oxygen he would use up. But he did it anyway; and the deep laugh of the Whamon propelled him forward, even though his jacket made him feel clumsy in these deep waters.

He used all his willpower to prevent himself from breathing in. And he soon realized that he’d stopped swimming. He could feel Whamon looming behind him. His eyes were turned towards the pyramidal palace. His right hand grasped his mouth and nose while his left hand stretched towards the apex, gripping his D-Tector. The world was beginning to slip away from him. It began to feel like more and more of a dream…. Except for the burning in his chest and the desire to take some air into his lungs.

The ocean around him was fading… He wouldn’t be able to keep it up much longer. He’d failed. He’d learnt nothing that would have helped him to know what happened to his friend. Not that it mattered anyway; he would never see Porpamon again.

No! Don’t die! We need you!

Were those words he’d just heard in his head? It didn’t seem as distinct as words… but someone was trying to tell him something. And that someone… felt very familiar…

Porpamon… Ken thought, going further and further into soddenness.

NO! STAY ALIVE!

This wave of thought pulled Ken out of his stupor, almost causing him to take a breath. Through the murk, he saw a golden glow coming from what seemed to be to top of the pyramid; where the statue was.

The light made even the Whamon behind him gasp in surprise. This light was somehow a beacon of hope, his last beacon of hope. Blurred by the sea, the light started to change form and move towards Ken, swimming like a long sea serpent. And soon it streaked towards Ken’s D-Tector very much like Porpamon had.

Ken saw the Fractal Code appear around his hand; not the single line of code that had allowed him to Spirit Evolve before, though. Ken knew this time would be different.

With the last bit of energy he had left, he swiped the Fractal Code over the D-Tector; Execute! Beast Spirit Evolution! he called out in his head.

And not a moment too soon. Ken felt the power overwhelm him once again. Surrounded by Fractal Code, he began to change.

“What’s this?!” Whamon cried out as he watched the Evolution.

The Beast Spirit’s power became infused in Ken’s body. Long, lithe and serpentine, the new Digimon called out his name as the Fractal Code surrounding him vanished. “Ophismon!”

Whamon let out a self-satisfied laugh chuckle. “So, the old fool left behind a copy of this serpentine form for you as well, did he?”

Ophismon’s purple eyes narrowed as he said, “What are you talking about?” His voice sounded more gruff and feral than he’d sounded as NeoAquatomon, who bore Aquatomon’s smooth voice.

“The king of this city,” Whamon explained, “had a form very similar to the one you have just assumed. Livyauthamon was the form the Scarlet Queen of Darkness fought and was defeated by. Just as the form you had come here with is similar to the one that the king assumed as he sat on his throne in his palace. You are the inheritor of the Ocean King’s Spirits. And so, you are my sworn enemy. I will defeat you!”

How is it that I can use the king’s Spirit? Ophismon mused. My digivice… Porpamon becoming a Spirit would explain why Whamon would think NeoAquatomon resembled the king (which was likely another form of Aquatomon or something); but could Porpamon’s closeness to the king also have permitted Ken to use Livyathamon’s power?

Out of the corner of his eye, Ophismon saw movement. Turning, he saw Tylomon and Depthmon picking up the Dolphmon’s Digieggs from the seabed. The Tylomon carefully grasped them with their jaws and the Depthmon with their hands. “Ophismon!” Depthmon shouted. “Honour the memory of our king’s name!”

Ophismon nodded. They were trusting him; trusting him to bring peace once again to their oceans and to use their king’s Spirit in a way that would have made him proud… And he would not fail them. But he noticed something. Whamon seemed to be stalling. Waiting for something.

Well, Ophismon was not about to find out what. The twelve-foot long Digimon rushed forward, ready for battle.

“Blating Spout!” Whamon called again and blasted his attack at Ophismon. The smaller Digimon dodged and lunged.

“Dragon’s Fang!” Ophismon yelled as he opened his mouth and a blast of energy escaped, taking the form of a large ferocious-looking serpentine head with teeth bared and ready to sink into the Whamon.

“How dare you?!” Whamon cried out in rage and pain.

But Ophismon wasn’t done yet. It was time to end this. “Leviathan’s Rage!” Ophismon called out as he unleashed his most powerful attack. His whole body started glowing and he rushed forward at an incredible speed, orbiting the large Digimon. Going around and around, he sliced him with teeth and the remnants of claws that he had. Whamon let out a cry of agony as his Fractal Code appeared around him.

Ophismon beheld the sight of the large Digimon surrounded by the long bar code; and instinct once again took over. His webbed hand swept his D-Tector swept his D-Tector in front of him. “Whatever it is that did this to you; may the power of the sea purge you of it! Fractal Code digitize!” He watched as the Whamon’s Fractal Code was sucked into the D-Tector; and the large Digimon shrank considerably, becoming once again a docile Dolphmon.

“What… I…” the Dolphmon muttered in confusion. “What happened?”

The corners of Ophismon’s mouth curved upwards in a reassuring smile. But he didn’t say anything at first; and the smile instantly vanished. He felt something… a power was rising; seemingly pulling itself together. “Swim away,” Ophismon said as his purple eyes swept around to see where this force was coming from.

“But… what… who?” Dolphmon said, shocked and worried at the urgency in Ophismon’s voice.

“I’m Ophismon; I evolved from NeoAuqatomon. Now go!” Ophismon ordered. “It’s not safe here!” He deliberately omitted the fact that he had evolved to stop the evolved Dolphmon.

Dolphmon hesitated, but then with confusion in his emerald eyes, swam away as fast as he could. Ophismon looked around. He could detect something… some sort of Digimon… But where? Then, it finally came to him: the statues. His eyes darted from statue to statue of ocean Digimon scattered across the city. He saw each of them start to glow. He started to hear a laugh; soft at first… and then it grew louder. One by one, a beam of light shot out from the statues; aimed directly upwards. The laugh of triumph was almost deafening now. It was distinctly feminine.

Ophismon knew what he had to do. As quickly as he could, he swam towards the surface. He could still see the beams shooting past him. In the distance, he saw them burst through the surface of the water. It turns out the surface hadn’t been as far away as he’d calculated; just around six times the height of the palace from the seabed. But considering the pyramidal palace was at least thirty storeys tall, he wouldn’t have been able to make it to the surface fast enough to get air anyway. He swam past the apex, where the golden statue no longer rested, having become a Spirit under Ken’s control. With all his might, he burst out of the ocean. But he could only watch as the streaks of white light combined into a growing ball of energy.

“What is this?” he wondered aloud. The laughter hadn’t subsided. Whatever this was, it was happening; and he could think of no way to stop it.

Soon, the while streams of energy stopped erupting from the ocean. The ball of light remained where it was; but soon, it started to change. It became a cocoon of Fractal Code. And Ophismon waiting with bated breath, floating over the calming waters just as NeoAquatomon could. And suddenly, the Fractal Code receded, leaving a Digimon that Ophismon knew was his new enemy.

“Well, hello there,” the lavender-haired Digimon greeted with a familiar chuckle. Self-satisfied… “Inheritor of the Sea King’s Spirit… We meet face-to-face.”

“You!” Ophismon cried in wide-eyed realization. “You were the one that did that to Dolphmon!”

“So, you’re not as foolish as you appear,” she answered, grasping her cerulean shawl in her light-skinned hand. “Allow me to introduce myself. My name is ThartosAngewomon. And I will be your executioner.”

Thartos… The name instantly brought memories from months ago back to his mind. His first time in the Digital World; his battle alongside Porpamon. ThartosAngemon had been their enemy. An enemy they defeated only by being together. And now, Ken was alone. He did not have his friend with him to give him courage. And he was the one doing the fighting.

No… Porpamon was with him… Albeit in a different way. He had to take some comfort in that. He had to be strong. ThartosAngewomon… was a threat to the peace of this Digital World. He could sense that.

“So, you’re what Whamon was waiting for. He was waiting for you to free yourself,” Ophismon realized.

“Correct again,” ThartosAngewomon said; her lips (the lower of which was a rich rouge colour) was curved into a smile of intrigue. “He was clever, as well. The ruler of Digi-Atlantis. When he was poised for battle, he became Livyathamon. Your eyes…” – she sounded pensive – “they’re just like his. I don’t know how he did it, but he somehow managed to give you that power. And so, I will exact my revenge on you. You may not even be a Digimon… but greatly erred by coming here and accepting his power. And you will perish here.”

Ophismon’s eyes widened as she widened her near-black wings and yelled, “Dark Destiny!” A blast of blackness rushed forth from her feathered appendages, but Ophismon evaded. “Think you’re fast, do you?” ThartosAngewomon taunted. Ophismon had little time to realize that she was right behind him, her hand right in his scaly back. “Cry of the Fallen!” she exclaimed and Ophismon cried out in pain as a blast of flame erupted from her palm and onto his back. Writhing, he attempted to orient himself, but was not quick enough. Soon, her felt the force of a heel of her dark boot planted into his head.

ThartosAngemon watched as he tumbled towards the water, stopping himself just before breaching the surface and causing small waves on the waters. She’s fast… and strong… Ophismon thought. What can I do?

“Having fun, Ophismon?” she chuckled. “You really are a disappointment. The Sea King was much more of a challenge. I could end this at any moment, you know. And then, the entire Digital World will be mine to amuse myself with. Don’t you think you should do something to stop me?”

Groaning in pain, Ophismon uttered, “Dragon’s Rage!” and blasted the dragon-shaped attack at ThartosAngewomon. She only laughed and stretched out her hand. With one sweeping gesture, she was able to not only stop the onslaught, but bring it to nothing.

Oh, no… Ophismon thought.

And in an instant, she was right next to him. “You know, no words can express what it was like to be sealed away as I was,” she said to him. Her voice betrayed no sign of rage; she was joy. It seemed her sadism was more powerful than even her desire for revenge; it fed on it, becoming even stronger. Even as the Digital World was fragmented by that Lucemon, I could do nothing to prevent myself from being absorbed by him. Fortunately, the world was restored. The city was restored. And I could continue working to free myself from my prison.” Ophismon should have moved, should have attacked, should have done something! But he was frozen by fear.

ThartosAngemon brought her black-gloved hand to his face and gave him a hard backhanded slap. Grabbing his arm with the same hand, she cried, “Cry of the Fallen!” and the explosion of flame from her other hand engulfed him. And when it was gone, she held Ken helpless and in pain.

“Wow, you’re not too bad-looking, are you?” she teased, grasping his face in her deceptively soft hands. Ken knocked her hand away in frustration. “Hmm, still have some fight left in you, I see. Well, we can fix that!”

“Stop!” Ken and ThartosAngewomon heared a voice cry out in the distance. It was a small voice that Ken recognized instantly and the realization gripped his heart with fear and worry.

“No! Patamon, go back! It’s too dangerous!”

“Ken!” Patamon called. “I came to help!”

“Oh, you care for this little whelp, don’t you?” ThartosAngemon said with another of her sadistic chuckles. “Well, it would be interesting to see what would happen if I did this…” She raised her hand and pointed it at the small Digimon, ready to unleash her flame attack on him.

“NO! Please! Don’t!” Ken yelled.

“Ken…” Patamon whispered as he stopped, using his ear-wings to hover in this one spot.

But what happened next took ThartosAngewomen by surprise. She saw the small Digimon start to glow. “What?!” she cried out, her grip tightening painfully around Ken’s wrist. And as Ken’s D-Tector started glowing as well, she knew what was going on was not good. Before she could do anything, a shot of light came from the glowing Patamon, aimed directly at Ken’s D-Tector. As the Fractal Code appeared around the hand that she was holding, she released in shock. She shouldn’t have done that.

“Execute! Fusion Evolution!” Ken yelled.

ThartosAngemon couldn’t believe it. Fusion!? He was merging the two Spirits together?! She could feel the anger boiling inside her. And as the Fractal Code that surrounded Ken vanished and the Digimon before her called out his name, she felt her rage ready to explode.

“UmiGrowlmon!” the Fusion Digimon called out. He had those same purple eyes; the eyes she hated. But he’d become more humanoid. His face had become less elongated and he’d grown legs.

Yelling out in rage, she darted a poisonous look at Patamon, who had been smiling and laughing to himself at the new development. “NO MORE SURPRISES, WHELP!” she shouted. “DARK DESTINY!”

Patamon looked on helplessly as the dark energy rushed towards him. He shut his eyes tightly, bracing himself for once again becoming a Digiegg. But that didn’t happen. When he opened his eyes, he found himself safely in the arms of the newly evolved UmiGrowlmon.

“Thanks!” the small Digimon said.

“No problem,” UmiGrowlmon replied. “Now, get back to Bokomon and Neemon. They must be worried.”

“Yes, sir!” Patamon said cheerfully, taking off and rushing off into the distance as fast as his little wings allowed.

“I won’t let you escape that easily!” ThartosAngewomon yelled after Patamon. Spreading her wings, she rushed after the orange Digimon with that same amazing speed. Anyone who interferes in my battles WILL get his comeuppance! she thought angrily. This Digimon is NO exception!

But ThartosAngewomon never reached her goal. A cry of shock escaped her lips as the felt something grasp her by the neck. It took her a second or two to realize that it was UmiGrowlmon’s tail. He floated in front of her with his face turned away. Her head was on the level of his feet, which, she realized too late, worked against her as he released the grip his tail had on her and gave her a powerful kick in the face.

Holding her face in pain, she yelled, “You! How dare you?!”

“Me? I was not the one who was going to harm a defenseless Digimon, you coward. This is just between me and you,” UmiGrowlmon said as he clenched his fist. True to his name, his voice had a gruffness about it that hid any sign of the human that had assumed this form.

“Once I’m done with you, the entire Digital World will feel my wrath, you pathetic human!” ThartosAngewomon declared as she removed her hands from her face. “You worry about one Digimon… you should worry about them all!”

“You’re insane…” UmiGrowlmon muttered.

“Let’s have at it!” ThartosAngewomon screamed, rushing forward, her feathered shawl fluttering behind her.

UmiGrowlmon did the same and implanted his fist in her abdomen. “I won’t let you hurt any innocent Digimon,” he said. And with another punch, this time in the face of the shocked dark angel Digimon, he sent her flying.

How… he became so fast, so strong… she mused.

“I won’t lose!” she cried. “Cry of the Fallen!” She held out her hand and blasted the roaring fire at him.

“Yes, you will,” UmiGrowlmon whispered. “Tidal Pulse!” He pointed his palm as well and his tail moved around a bit as a huge blast of water rushed at her from his hand. ThartosAngewomon could do nothing as her attack was completely engulfed by the rushing water… and slammed into her full force. Her screams gurgled out of her mouth. Pain… an experience she hardly ever had. And one she was not fond of in the least.

She was falling now. Falling… falling…

He truly has the king’s power… she thought right before she splashed into the Net Ocean. ThartosAngewomon was gone… Never to be seen again.

UmiGrowlmon let out a sigh of relief. “It’s over,” he muttered. But he still didn’t have Porpamon with him. And he didn’t know if he ever would. In fact… he didn’t even know if he would ever be able return to his own world or to the Digital World that he knew. With another sigh – this time, one of sorrow – he turned, ready to leave. But he was stopped in his tracks when he detected something beneath the waves. He turned back as he heard the sound of water rushing and heard a voice call out:

“ThartosAngewomon Slide Evolution!”

The water had been pushed aside to form a crater around a Digimon that had been surrounded by a Fractal Code. UmiGrowlmon’s enemy was still alive.

The water started to fall back into place as she took her new form. “Babylmon!” she announced, looking up at the Fusion Digimon from where she stood floating just above the sea. The water crashed together beneath her. “I congratulate you,” she said with a smug smirk on her face as she closed her eyes in amusement. “I had determined not to assume this form for the duration of this battle. I thought you were not worthy to behold this form. But, it appears I was wrong.” UmiGrowlmon growled deep in his throat as he watched her ascend to where he was. Babylmon was a Digimon of quite exquisite beauty. She still had that scarlet lower lip, but now, she wore no helmet, so her cerulean eyes were perfectly visible. Her hair was still lavender, but was longer (reaching her hips) and seemed richer, with a beautiful sheen. She wore a long flowing red gown with slits at the side and her shawl had become as lavender as her hair. She wore a beautiful golden necklace with pearls, amber and blue topaz, golden armbands on her upper arms and bracelets or very elaborate design. A silver broach on her chest with black wings hinted at her previous form. Really, hardly looked like a Digimon at all; if she hadn’t been flying and had a silver tinge to her skin, she would just look like a well-dressed human woman with her hair dyed purple.

“This is the form in which I terrorized the Digital World so long ago,” Babylmon continued, “absorbing the Fractal Codes of Digimon everywhere. The sea king Livyathamon was unable to defeat this form and so he scattered my Fractal Code and sealed me within his city. But, as clever a trick as that was… he didn’t realize that I could absorb data from the area around me… a little at a time, but soon, I was able to break his seal, and pull myself together.” Her smirk widened a bit. “It is quite an interesting coincidence that you come wondering along just as I neared the threshold of freedom… Now, I can exact my revenge… the king lives on within you. And so, you will feel the wrath of Babylmon!”

UmiGrowlmon clenched his fist and let out a low growl as he narrowed his purple eyes.

“I will rule all the regions of the Digital World,” Babylmon declared. “I will cause this city below me to rise to the surface; and my throne will be within it. I will rule from these waters.”

“No…” UmiGrowlmon said. “I can’t allow you to desecrate the king’s throne, his city in that way. I won’t!”

Babylmon just laughed. “My poor philanthropist…. You don’t have a choice!”

Before he knew it, UmiGrowlmon found himself blocking a kick from the humanoid Digimon. So, those slits did serve a purpose. Her glistening anklet moved towards his face as she kicked with the other leg, which he was unable to block this time around. He let out a small cry of pain, but he soon recovered, swiping his tail around and slapping Babylmon in her back. In rage, she rushed at him, swiping at her with her rouged fingernails; but UmiGrowlmon had claws too and after wrapping her hands in his tail, he swiped at her, slashing through her stomach. With a scream of pain, she freed herself by planting her pointed heel into his own stomach.

“You are good at hand-to-hand combat,” Babylmon commented under her breath as she gripped her aching abdomen. But let’s see if you can handle this. “Cup of Indignation!”

UmiGrowlmon looked at her with wide-eyes as a glowing golden chalice appeared in her left hand. She swiped it around and a mass of energy came out like wine she was pouring out of it. Except it rushed out with a vengeance and with power. It was fast… too fast. And it was wide. He couldn’t escape.

A scream of agony was forced out of him as the golden energy flowed around and through him. Every bit of data within him yelled out the pain that he was feeling. It was then that he knew that he would not stand a chance against her. This power was too much. And as the attack ended, they look on her face affirmed that very fact.

“You’ve driven me to show you this form,” she said with her self-assured smirk. “I might as well show you my full power. Are you ready?”

UmiGrowlmon felt his body shiver… Not just but the pain or from the fear… but from the fact that he had failed. Utterly and completely failed.

Babylmon put both of her hands before her and a bit of fractal code appeared before, floating between her palms. “Behold…” she said as she stretched out her hands. She allowed ball of fractal code descend as it grew… and grew… and grew. UmiGrowlmon could do nothing but float where he was… in wonder. Whatever was going to be birthed from this large orb of swirling Fractal Code was only bad news for him and the entire Digital World.

When, the ball finally reached full capacity, it stopped growing. “Now, you shall see my true power!” And with a flick of Babylmon’s wrist, the Fractal Code vanished and what had been veiled was now perfectly visible. UmiGrowlmon let out a very audible sound of shock and fear. What he saw was huge; at least ten storeys in height. A large cat-like Digimon with fur the same scarlet colour as Babylmon’s gown. Strangely enough, it had seven heads; all ferocious-looking, but not identical. They were arranged in such a way that there were six surrounding a central one. The central head had the largest fangs, coming dangerously close to impaling the heads of those below it. It had glaring yellow eyes and four cream-coloured horns between its rounded ears pointing forward like a bull’s. The other heads had slightly smaller heads and had black eyes. The six that were above the central head each had two horns like the central head’s. This Digimon’s tail was tufted like that of a lion, though no head bore a mane.

“This is Babylmon: Untamed Mode!” Babylmon declared. “An extension of myself created from absorbed Fractal Codes of countless Digimon during my sweet reign of terror.” The beast started floating up to its master and Babylmon alighted on one of the upper heads of the beast. “I can see you trembling in fear of my power. Have you yet become conscious of your eminent defeat?”

“No…” UmiGrowlmon muttered, too softly for Babylmon to hear. “This power is NOT yours! You stole it from innocent Digimon!”

“Sacrifices must be made for the sake of power, you simple human,” Babylmon said with pompousness and almost pity in her voice. “And you will have to make such a sacrifice soon. Your data will be added to my pools of power.

No… Please no… I can’t lose… UmiGrowlmon thought. Tears trailed down from his purple eyes. The pain that pulsed through him made it hard to even move.

“Now, it is time to say goodbye!” Babylmon laughed loudly, and her beast roared loudly, reflecting her inner triumphant feelings. Each open mouth developed a ball of energy, ready to blast at the much smaller Beast Digimon.

No… Porpamon… wherever you are… please help me…

Please.

And help came. From the depths of the ocean, a single beam of light burst past the waves, shooting through the air between the UmiGrowlmon and Babylmon. Babylmon let out a cry of surprise as her Untamed Mode stopped its attack as a result of the shock. The beam shrank into a small ball. And as the ball blinked a few times, it vanished and what took its place made Babylmon’s face distort into an expression of utmost shock.

UmiGrowlmon looked as the Digimon looked at him with kind emerald-coloured eyes. As he help his pain-wracked body, he knew instantly who this Digimon was. The leader of Digi-Atlantis.

“You!” Babylmon explained with utmost loathing punctuating her voice. “PharaohAquatomon!”

But PharaohAquatomon did not answer. Instead, he sharply turned to face her, his light-blue cloak fluttering around him. He raised his left hand, which bore a golden arm-blaster and a trident appeared in his grasp. He raised his weapon towards the now dark sky. UmiGrowlmon was amazed by the authority that radiated from his every action. His crown resembled one of the crowns of the kings of ancient Egypt. On this crown, UmiGrowlmon had recognized the same symbol that Bokomon had said was the symbol of the Sea King.

“How dare you ignore me, you pompous fool?!” Babylmon yelled as her beast growled in her rage.

But as she said this, PharaohAquatomon’s trident started glowing he made a circular movement in the air. And to the surprise of both UmiGrowlmon and Babylmon, strange small objects surrounded UmiGrowlmon and PharaohAquatomon. In confusion and shock, UmiGrowlmon studied them.

“It couldn’t be…” he whispered. “The Spirits?” And in that instant, he found that he was once again Ken. Before him, were two figures that he assumed were the Spirits he’d used to become NeoAquatomon and Ophismon. They looked like miniatures, much like the other twenty that surrounded him now, floating in a circle, except these two didn’t have any bases like the hexagonal ones the Spirits of the Ten Legendary Warriors possessed. Floating in thin air, Ken saw that his right hand was surrounded once again by Fractal Code. The multiple bars wrapped around his hand looking like numerous planets orbiting his hand in different planes.

PharaohAquatomon nodded at him with those gentle regal eyes and then, he shrank, joining the miniature Spirits and leaving his trident behind. Gripping his D-Tector tight, Ken looked towards his hand and then towards Babylmon’s distant and angry countenance. I will defeat you, he thought in determination. In the name of peace in this and all worlds! The words came to him out of nowhere.

“Execute! Sovereign Spirit Evolution!” he yelled as he swiped his hand over his D-Tector, allowing it to scan the Fractal Code. This power was unlike no other… The power of the Spirits of the Ancient Digimon gave strength to the Sea King Spirits… And soon, he assumed a form far more powerful than he had ever experienced. As the evolution was over, he declared his new name loudly and clearly:

“ImperialAquatomon!”

Babylmon could only look on in wonder. “No… this cannot be happening…” she muttered.

With his eyes still closed, ImperialAquatomon raised his right arm, which had a single fin on the forearm, and the trident slowly moved towards it. As his fingers clasped around it, his eyes snapped open and his big wings, floating behind his back spread out. Sitting upon this Digimon’s head was a crown resembling a conch shell and on the left side of his chest was the symbol of the Sea King. His hair, dark-blue cloth belt and the cloak that was wrapped around his waist fluttered in the wind. He gripped the trident tightly now with both hands. Babylmon knew what was coming.

“NO!!” she yelled sounding almost as feral as the creature that had been born from her. Babylmon: Untamed Mode roared in her rage and in her sudden feeling of hopelessness and each of its seven heads emitted a blast of energy that would probably have been enough to level a whole city.

ImperialAquatomon allowed his left hand to fall to his side and as the attack rushed towards him. With one swift movement of his trident, the attack was cancelled out completely. Babylmon let out a surprised gasp and a small whimper as she saw that he had vanished from that spot. Looking upwards, she saw him; his blue eyes burned with determination as the prongs of the trident pointed directly towards her. With a small whimper, she realized… there was nothing she could do.

“Oceanus Fury!” he yelled as his trident became a narrow ray of golden light that truck her directly in the forehead, moving through her and her beast and striking the ocean below her. As if the pain she was feeling weren’t enough, the she saw ImperialAquatomon looking at her with something in his eyes… was that pity? How dare he pity her? But as he clenched his fists and turned away, he knew that was what it was. She didn’t see it coming, but that did not dim the pain. The water rushed from the ocean below her and crashed into her Untamed Mode and into her true form, engulfing them…

Her pained screams and her beast’s howls reached her enemy’s ears. And he turned away, a tear escaping. Is this what it’s like to inflict pain, Porpamon? How do you do it? It’s so hard.

But as the sound of rushing water was gone, ImperialAquatomon knew it was time. Grasping his D-Tector in his right hand, he turned around to see the Fractal Code surrounding Babylmon. “I pray the ocean has purified you of your rage, Babylmon. May you be reborn with a pure spirit,” he lowered himself to her level and made his D-Tector read the Fractal Code. “Fractal Code Digitize.”

His D-Tector absorbed the code and the small object left behind caught his eye. He rushed forward and caught the pink Digiegg and held it tenderly.

Thank you, Ken West. Thank you for saving our world.

Slowly ImperialAquatomon felt the world slip out from under him. He felt himself slip into darkness… but strangely, he was not afraid. He was Ken once again, surrounded by nothing much a foggy blackness.

Thank you…

Ken looked around for where this voice was coming from; though he knew he was not hearing it. It was in his head. Soon, he saw Porpamon before him. His friend…? No. This Porpamon had emerald eyes. Just like PharaohAquatomon.

Thank you, King Porpamon told Ken, his lips not moving. I’m sorry that I dragged you to this world… And took your friend from you. I sealed away Babylmon long ago, knowing that her power was too much for me and hoping that she would be forever trapped. But this process was too much for me… To prevent my knowledge of her being sealed from being lost forever, I sealed a bit of myself in my own palace and left behind what could call a Beast Spirit behind in the form of the statue on top of my palace.

But as time went by… I could feel that Babylmon was slowly escaping. I didn’t know what to do. I was only a fragment of what I was; I could not break free to communicate with anyone in the Digital World. But… somehow, I sensed myself connecting with a power from another place; a strange and distant world. That power was your digivice. I’m sorry, Ken West, but I had no other choice. I had to attempt to explore this connection. And I found that I could pull you to this world… The process turned your friend into a Spirit and for that I am sorry.

Porpamon is the reason for this bond, Ken West. He is the reason that you were able to save this world. Our similar data signature. And now, with my humblest apologies and gratitude, I am pleased to send you back to your own Digital World.

Ken smiled. But he was tired. He’d had enough of this. “I’m glad I could help. Thank you.”

Porpamon nodded. The Digital World will not forget what you have done for it. Goodbye. And with a sudden burst of blinding light, Ken found himself relaxed… The sweet feeling of a night wind graced his face. He was back. Back home. Well, back in the Digital World that he knew and loved.

“Ken!” As he heard this voice, an emotion like no other welled up inside him.

“Porpamon,” he breathed out as his friend hopped into his arms. He held his friend close and tight for a while and then sat up.

“You can’t imagine what it was like,” Porpamon said. Ken could hear the pain in his voice. “I… couldn’t talk to you. I… was part of you, but… kept from you.”

“It’s okay,” Ken comforted as tears trailed down his voice. “It won’t ever happen again. I promise.” Looking to his left, he saw his D-3 on the ground where he lay. He picked it up and got to his feet. Now, let’s go home.

*~*~*~*

“Patamon!” Bokomon called as he saw his beloved adopted child floating towards him. As he gave the orange Digimon a tight hug, he scolded, “Don’t you ever do that to me again!”

“I’m sorry, Papa-Mom,” Patamon said cheerfully, happy to be reunited with Bokomon.

“Thank goodness you’re alright,” Neemon said, walking towards them as Bokomon moved away from the ocean.

“Where’s the human kid?” Drake the Trailmon called out in irritation from the tracks he rested on.

“I dunno…” Patamon said, his voice losing its cheer.

Suddenly, though, Neemon exclaimed, “Look!” Bokomon and Patamon look up in amazement as a pink Digiegg hovered in the air above them. After a few seconds, it began to descend towards them. Patamon fluttered to his parent’s head as Bokomon caught the pink egg.

“What in the world…?” Bokomon wondered aloud. “Where did you come from?”

But were those the only surprise for them, they would have probably never understood where this Digiegg came from. Bokomon’s book started glowing. And as he took it out, and held it in his hand, he watched as it flipped to a page that had previous been blank; but now told a wonderful tale. As Neemon and Patamon looked on in curiosity, Bokomon smiled wide.

“Ken, you’re a hero just like our other human friends,” he muttered happily. “The Digital World will know what you have done for it, my friend. I swear it.” He put up his book and looked to his friend and his adoptive child. “Come on. It’s late. We should get home.”

“Hey,” Neemon said as he followed Bokomon. “What’d it say?”

Patamon happily fluttered after Bokomon as he, holding his younger sister, boarded the irate Trailmon. Neemon followed, still unsure of what he happened. But he would soon know. Drake started off, complaining a bit about having to wait all day. But, he was going home to a place that was still safe. And it so would stay for a long, long time.

Wow, no one's commented on my fanfiction...? :S
