OK, so... for a little while now i've been using skype and i've come to realize more and more... that skype is easily one of the best messenger programs out of all the messenger services available. The video callling service is top class and it works quickly and effortlessly giving me speeds that none of the other programs can match. The interface is easy to understand and straight forward, the chatting is great...

If you arent using this already.... i recommend you all start and appreciate skype for what it is... a damn good service.

as you should know ubuntu's skype sucks compared to the windows version. They don't invest that much time in the linux deb packages.. pretty sad. there's no video in the ubuntu version if i remember correctly. One day though them gonna have to start paying linux more attention.. anyway let me not turn this thread into a linux versus the world of software developers war thread.

Google talk is pretty nifty as well just that its only for pc to pc voip. But its pretty solid with regards to voice clarity. However skype wins because it has that + so much more so why settle for an app that only offers 1 feature from another. if u get what im saying.

Skype's rates are pretty decent. $13USD to call 34 countries with 10,000 minutes per month? Decent. I've been using it for some time now as well. My fav. app for voice/video calls. Nothing's better IMO.

You need to upgrade to the new version of skype for linux.

It does offer video and voice. I finally got the voice to work (i setup alsa wrong). It offers chat and all... Right now I cant think of anything I use in the windows version that isnt in the linux version... oh right it no longer has the take a screenshot of the video option. I had to do a alt+printscreen to get that to work.

Video and voice clarity is crystal clear... it works... im still in love with it. Allows me to talk to my brother in japan crystal clear. After his girlfriend came over my house and saw me talking to him, she bought a webcam and mic and downloaded skype same day, about 3 of my family members also downloaded and bought cams lol. This program is the boss. Simply put
