View Full Version : Rain tutorial - beginner animation

hey guys.. i had someone ask me how did i do the rain animation in my sig...
so i thought i would right my own tutorial on it...[even though theres heaps already out there,...haha]

To do this you need photoshop and image ready

^^ofcourse the picture had to be perverted..makes it more fun to do...!! ^__________^

1. open photoshop

2. Open picture in photoshop

3. press d [default panel colours-black and white] http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/default.png

4. Make sure you have your layer pallet open [Window>Layer]

5. open a new layer by clicking on this button. http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/newLayer.png

6. Now select the first layer, [in my pic its titled "layer 2"] CLICK HERE (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/layer.png)

7. From the menu toolbar>Filter>render>cloud.like in picture.HOW TO RENDER (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/render.png)

8. screen should now have black and white clouds ^____^ like this LIKE THIS (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/cloud.jpg)

9. now go filter>noise> add noise

amount:135%
distrubution:Gaussian
tick Monochromatic.

10. Now go filter>Blur>Motion blur
Angle: 40
Distance 15 pixels

11. change blending option to screen.

12. Image>Levels
type in these digits.

TYPE THESE IN (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/levels.png)

should now look like this:

now repeat steps 5- 11. AROUND 3-4 MORE TIMES...

now click here:

[b]ANIMATION

1. now turn all the rain layers off by clicking on the eye
WOW ITS MAGIC!! (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/visabile.jpg)

2. make sure to have your animation pallet on the bottom [window>animation]

3. click new layer as many times u have rain layers. I have 4 rain layers, so i wil create 4 NEW LAYERS.

4. now select the 2nd picture in the animation pallet.
and make the first rain layer visible

5. now select the 3rd picture in the animation pallet.
and make the 2nd rain layer visible

6. now select the 4th picture in the animation pallet.
and make the 3rd rain layer visible.

7. now select the 5th picture in the animation pallet.
and make the 4th layer visible.

8. now delete the first picture in the animation pallet
DELETE HERE (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/deleted.jpg)

9. now under the picture is times.
Select the first picture in the animation pallet and holding shift, select the last picture... they should now all be selected.

10. now click on the time under one of the pictures. and select 0.1

11. now to see what you have created click on the play button, to stop it press play again.

12. SAVING!!!
above the main picture are tabs. CLICK HERE (http://saturn.walagata.com/w/chidori69/RAIN_TUT/4-up2.jpg)
"Click on the 4-up" the picture should now have quad-droupled..haha

usualy i select the 2nd one, if you look under the pictures it shows the pictures opmtimised to different sizes.

now go

FILE>SAVE OPTIMISED AS> give it a name

and it should be saved like this

try to experiment with these though.. like maybe instead of an angled rain...make the rain go down..
and then maybe fiddle around with the opacity, number of layers, times...

Sweet being a photoshop wanna be, This will really help me.. Thanks alot chidori69. I"m gonna attempt this in a few mins.
