OK, I got the xbox.. but no matter what i try, this bitch isn't playing *.avi
Whats happening with it?
I tried playing it from the hdd and cd/dvd. It will play dvd's (xpected)
but it wont play avi's... and according to u ppl it should.

what codecs honestly.... do you have media center installed? cuase thats all i used. get the latest version and thats all i think you need.

he is obviously tryin to play it from the dash....no my friend u need media center which is already installed on it
go to applications and in that u will see media center
then u go to videos then browse to the dvd drive and ull see ur avi movies
hit the a button and ur in business

yes it needs codecs. i am assumin that he is tryin to play it in media center. remember media center is based after mplayer from linux. if u check ur media center folder u will see codecs in there.

hmm.. i've never been in the situation where i needed to update mine i guess. so i didn't know.

media center normally comes with codecs but u have some jackasses out there that put it up on the web without codecs

Got it sorted out, it still wont play from cd/dvds but if i ftp the files over i can watch them.
optical media say "caching" and when it finishes i dont know what the hell to make of it.
But i can work with ftp i guess
