Just a quickie. The word on the street (IRC) is that most anime groups will be moving toward MKV/X264. MKV is more flexable, and X264 just KICKS A$$!!!! when it comes to encoding anime. Some groups that do TV-RIPS may not go this route, as it's easier to make a hardsub file.........or is it? Most groups use SUB STATION ALPHA to create their subtitle files. At the end of it all, they remux the thing into a single AVI. IMO, it's a lot easier to stick it into an MKV and take around 30seconds to mux it, instead of however long to do over the whole thing.
The only problem is that some groups would want to watermark/logo a portion of the video so their work is known and cannot be stolen. This can still be done and then remuxed. Some tools for us all to know if we want to do video:
SUB STATION ALPHA - Subtitles
VIRTUAL DUB MOD - To edit MKV/OGM and convert
OGMTOOLS - to make OGM
MKVTOOLNIX - to make MKV
GORDIAN KNOT - for general ripping/encoding/muxing
There are more, but it all depends on what you need. PM me or IM me and we can go into more detail, or expand the thread and we can delve into it.
