I got something for you to do in your spare time that will help us all in the anime world. For those who want to ensure that we rip our DVD's to high quality OGM/MKV, I've got the perfect links for you.

Check out Handbrake. It's free, and there's a Windows port. I haven't got it to work on BEOS tho, and it may be because of my hardware, I don't know. If you can either take on the source code and build a similar project, or add to the coding of the Windows port, it would be nice. Another to look into for ideas is FAIRUSE (http://www.fairusewizard.com/). It is decent, and is what I currently use for quick ripping to MKV. Granted I still use MKVTOOLNIX (found at http://www.matroska.org/) to remux it when I'm done, the app is really decent. Let me know how you feel and if you think you're up to the task.
