For info from the source

Found an app called the U3 SHORTCUT CREATOR (http://hypyke.home.comcast.net/U3Shortcut.zip) which works nicely to add non-U3 apps (like those downloaded from PORTABLE APPS (http://portableapps.com/)) to the menu. See the U3 NEWBIE GUIDE (http://www.everythingusb.com/u3.html) for more info.

Only problem I've had with it so far (Kingston 1GB U3 Drive - DTIU3/1GB (http://www.kingston.com/flash/u3center.asp)) is that it doesn't like other removable storage devices being in there first. If there are other USB storage devices in there it may not start the U3 Launcher, so U may want to bear that in mind. If anyone else has this same problem (same or different vendor) let me know. I e-mailed Kingston about it, and am waiting on what they say.

I recieved a reply from Kingston and with that information, I believe I have found the problem and solution. Whenever I plugged the U3 device into my machine with the password enabled, the U3 menu would not start (meaning no access to the drive). If the password is disabled then access to the drive would be granted and the U3 menu would start. I had tested the U3 device in other PCs and laptops I believe I have found why it behaves this way.

I have a multi-card reader:
USB Card Reader
Model No: UCR-61
FCC: 3912A713
S/N: C98022O40527761
Similar model seen here - http://3btech.net/sy12in1usb20.html

Whenever that is plugged into my computer or laptop the problem arises. Whenever the item (UCR-61) is plugged out and any other USB storage device is plugged in there are no problems with the Kingston U3 device. I hope this information helps out anyone else with a U3 device that may experience the same problem. I've updated Kingston on the situation as well.

For those who are interested in having a menu similar to the U3, but don't have a U3 drive (duh) then the new PORTABLE APPS (http://portableapps.com) has a suite that is right for you! Their new suite (not the launcher) has lovely functions that resembles the U3 menu. Go to the site and check it out! It's nice, and shows just about all the same functions of the U3 drive. It also now comes with an INSTALLATION option, which will integrate the newly installed app into the menu.

Known Issues

Some applications have known issues. These are details on each application's support page. The Suite has the following issues:
No Deleting Apps While Menu Running - Installed apps can't be deleted while the menu is running. This is because the Menu keeps a lock on each applications file to use display its icon. This will be fixed in a later release.

Have fun!
